Sign waves

Well, 2008 election fever is starting to show in Eugene, as evidenced by the fact that Will managed to lure me and Valerie to a sign-waving event on Saturday in support of a Democrat not named Hillary Clinton. We held up signs for about an hour as traffic passed us by on the Ferry Street Bridge and collected hundreds of honks and only a handful of middle fingers.

Now, I don't know what will actually happen when the primary rolls around in Oregon on May 20, but I figure I'll probably support Obama. Biggest reason: He seems to be somewhat outside the normal political system and might be able to effect change. Now is he actually that far removed from a sleazy politician? Not sure. When you compare him to Hillary, well, it becomes somewhat easier. An entrenched power figure who carpetbags in to New York after a failed healthcare platform as the unelected First Lady? Yeah, she pretty much embodies The Man, even if she's technically a woman.

Oh, and as for Val and the sign: Do not impute that just because she's waving the sign that she'll be voting blue this year. I recently flipped my registration to Democrat but she's campaigned for Republicans the last 8 years and may or may not make the switch this year. She said she just showed up to come along with me and because she wanted to support Will in his efforts as unofficial chairman of Obama 4 Eugene.

For more political drivel, feel free to read my other blog. In other news, Val and I have now attended a church for two consecutive weeks. I think it's called Christ Fellowship; I could be wrong. It's over at a Middle School off River Road and full of people who genuinely seem to be there to get closer to God instead of just to be there for social hour. I think we've both had enough of church hopping and are hoping we can get plugged in at this place.

:-D Great post, Brook. You certainly didn't misrepresent me, although the magic 8 ball points to "signs look favorable" when I ask whether or not I'll be voting for Mr. Obama.

Love you! I also love the frequent updates...
